Case study: TAP Age UK

At the TAP end. Age UK's vital community transport service.
Last week, I met with Ann Lewis. Director of Transport for Age UK Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. She heads up the team who run TAP - the crucial community transport service for older people.

Age UK run TAP (Transport, Access, People) a "transport service for people who have non-emergency healthcare appointments, difficulty accessing other forms of public transport and for organisations and groups, so that they can attend social activities."

Challenges faced by the service:

  • Lack of volunteers "treat them like they're gold"

  • Black spots of service due to low numbers of volunteers

  • Can be unreliable and unpredictable
